Director's Message

Dear friends of ECO-UNESCO,

We’ve had an excellent start to the summer so far! Our ECO-Explorers camps will start on July 6th and will run until the end of August! We are delighted that the camps have proved to be so popular and we look forward to sharing with all of the children what they can do to help protect the environment, while having a lot of fun at the same time!

I attended the World Environmental Education Congress that was held in Gothemburg, Sweden and presented on ECO-UNESCO’s experience of ' Youth Engagement and Empowerment through Action Projects and Peer Education - Case studies of ECO-UNESCO's Young Environmentalist Awards and Youth for Sustainable Development. The WEEC is an international meeting point for everyone working with Education for Environment and Sustainable Development. This congress will encourage us, participants, to learn and share new ways of thinking and to explore new trends in research and practice in environmental education.

It has also been a busy time for the teen members of ECO-UNESCO. Our teen camp took place at the end of June with some very green teens having a really fun time with our workshops and outdoor nature excursions and we look forward to welcoming even more young people to the camp next year!

ECO-UNESCO Clubs are in full swing this summer. Young people from across Ireland are busy carrying out environmental activities as part of the ECO-UNESCO Clubs in Action programme.
We look forward to seeing the results of their work this autumn!

Donations to help support our important youth and environmental work can be made via our online platform with the option of either a once off donation or monthly direct debit. Your support would be greatly appreciated and would go a long way towards sustaining our viatal youth empowerment and environmental protection programmes.

As you can see, we have a jam packed summer ahead. We hope you can support us and get involved where possible.

Until next month, be sure to keep up to date with all our news and events on Twitter, Facebook and our website.

Elaine Nevin,

National Director ECO-UNESCO

Until next time,

Elaine Nevin
