Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Mr Phil Hogan T.D recently announced the appointment of the sixth Advisory Committee to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Elaine Nevin, National Director of ECO-UNESCO, Ireland’s leading environmental educational and youth organisation, was one of four people appointed to the committee as a ministerial appointee.
The EPA Advisory Committee has a range of advisory functions including making recommendations to the EPA or the Minister, in matters relating to governance of the environment, environmental law, licensing, planning and waste management.
Commenting on her appointment, Elaine Nevin said, “To be selected to this committee by the Minister is a real honour and I look forward to making a positive and informed contribution on the wide range of environmental issues that will arise. This appointment is a great opportunity to bring my experience leading a youth environmental organisation to a wider platform and to ensure that any matters arising are also viewed from an educational and youth perspective.”
Elaine has held the position of National Director of ECO-UNESCO since 2002 and has developed a wide range of programme including the award winning Energy Globe programme ‘Young Environmentalist Awards’, developed ECO-UNESCO as a FETAC accredited centre and the establishment of youth peer education programmes. Elaine also sits the National Youth Council of Ireland as Vice-President and the National Youth Work Advisory Committee.
