Today we celebrate UN #WorldWaterDay 2019, and what better way to acknowledge it than to look at the work that ECO-UNESCO

is carrying out with young people across Ireland?

The Young Environmentalist Awards

Every year, groups enter their environmental action projects into the water category of the Young Environmentalist Awards. 2019 is no different,

with a number of strong projects coming through in the category. One such project comes from ECO-UNESCO’s Youth for Sustainable

Development group in Drogheda with their project ‘Battle for the Boyne’.

Youth for Sustainable Development

Our Youth for Sustainable Development Programme always celebrate World Water Day by taking an action.

2017: Faciliated an event in Europe House that focused on three Sustainable Development Goals: Clean Water and

Sanitation, Sustianable Cities and Communities, and Life Below Water

2018: Ran water-themed workshops at the Young Environmentalist Awards semi-final ‘ECO-Dens’

2019: Interviewed the general public on their water consumption habits (stay tuned for the video!)

ECO-Choices

Inspired by the work they completed on the ECO-Choices programme, Stanhope Street Secondary schoolare

taking it upon themselves to organise a beach clean-up.

In order to highlight ocean pollution and in an effort to brighten up their school they hope to turn this

unwanted rubbish into artwork, and to feature in their school as a sustainable way to transform unwanted waste.

ECO-UNESCO in the Media

We’ve been raising awareness of World Water Day and the work we do around it in the press this year.
