The International Conference and 34th Executive board meeting of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs Centres and Associations (WFUCA) begins today in New York and runs until Wednesday. The event, hosted by the US Federation, opens in the United Nations Building in New York will be attended by Elaine Nevin, National Director of ECO-UNESCO, Ireland’s environmental education and youth organisation. ECO-UNESCO has been affiliated to the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations (WFUCA) since 1986.

This six day WFUCA conference, attended by delegates from all around the world, will focus on the issues of global ethics, sustainable development and social media and will include a number of executive meetings and workshops. There will also be a panel discussion held on Monday March 10th Saturday, which will examine ‘The Future We Want’;  Elaine Nevin will join this panel to discuss  ethics as a new foundation for sustainable development.

Speaking about the conference Ms. Nevin commented; “This international conference presents an excellent opportunity for UNESCO Clubs worldwide to come together to discuss and share our experiences and programmes, and to learn from each other. The programme that has been put together by our U.S. UNESCO colleagues is to be greatly commended. In particular I am looking forward to the panel discussion ‘The Future we Want’ highlighting ECO-UNESCO’s experience in delivering education for sustainable development in Ireland.”
