Celebrate the biggest day for positive environmental action!

To celebrate this year’s World Environment Day on June 5th, ECO-UNESCO’s Environmental Youth Officer will be spending the day in Scoil Mhuire in Swanlinbar, Co Cavan, delivering ECO-Watchers workshops on Energy! These workshops will look at the wide ranging subject of Energy itself – human energy, man-made energy, renewable energy, how we use energy and how does energy use affect the environment around us. Groups will also look at their own energy use and how they can save energy at home and at school!

To book one of our ECO-Watchers Workshops please, check our website!

What is World Environment Day?

World Environment Day is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Over the years it has grown to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by stakeholders in over 100 countries. It also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet.

The theme of this year’s World Environment Day is “Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care”. The goal of sustainable development is to increase the quality of life for all people without increasing environmental degradation, and without compromising the resource needs of future generations.

“Although individual decisions may seem small in the face of global threats and trends, when billions of people join forces in common purpose, we can make a tremendous difference.”

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon
